Materials

Yarn: Lion Brand Yarn Wool-Ease Chunky, bulky weight #5 yarn (80% acrylic, 20% wool; 153 yd / 150 m per 5 oz / 140 g skein). 2 skeins Color A (Adult hat shown in Spice, Child hat shown in Silver). 1 skein Color B (pom-poms for both sizes shown in Natural)

Yarn alternative: Patons Classic Wool Bulky Yarn

Hook & other materials: US K-101/2 (6.5mm) crochet hook, 1.5” pom-pom maker (optional).

Difficulty: Easy

Size: Toddler 17”x8” (Child 20”x9”, Adult 23”x10”)

Gauge: 10 sts x 7 rows = 4” square

Stitch Guide: ch(s) – chain(s), sc – single crochet, st/sts – stitch/stitches, sl st – slip stitch, RS – right side

Special Stitches:

Three Double Crochet Cluster (3dc cluster): [Yo, insert hook into indicated st, yo and pull back through st, yo and pull through first 2 loops on hook] 3 times, yo and pull through all 4 loops on hook.

Instructions : Toddler (Child, Adult)

Chain 42 (50, 58).

Row 1 (RS): With Color A, sc into second ch from hook and each ch across – 41 (49, 57) sc.

Row 2: Ch 1 (not a st), turn, work 1 3dc cluster into first st, [ch 1, sk 1 st, work 1 3dc cluster into following st] 19 (23, 27) times – 41 (49, 57) sts, or 21 (25, 29) 3dc clusters.

Row 3: Ch 1 (not a st), turn, work 1 sc into each st across – 41 (49, 57) sts.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 respectively until row 15 (17, 19) is complete.

Seam: To form the hood, fold Row 15 (17, 19) in half, assuring wrong side is facing outward. Sl st row together using the back loops only. Fasten off, and turn hat RS out.

Border: Join Color A into seam formed when Row 15 (17, 19) was joined. Work 3 sc into every sc end row from hood until Row 1 of hood reached. First crochet tie: Ch 21 (25, 29), hdc into second ch from hook and each across. Sc across Row 1 of hood. Second crochet tie: Ch 21 (25, 29), hdc into second ch from hook and each across. Work 3 sc into every sc end row from hood. Sl st to join, fasten off.

Finishing: Make three pom-poms from Color B. Attach one to the end of each crochet tie, and one to the top seam of the hood.

12 sc BLO rows + 4 Hdc rows = 4″ x 4″

Sizes

6-12 Months: 17.5″ wide x 8.5″ long

1-3 years: 19″ wide x 9″ long

3-6 years: 20.5″ wide x 9.5″ long

6-12 years: 22″ wide x 10.5″ long

Adult: 23.5″ wide x 11″ long

XL Adult: 25″ wide x 11.5″ long

  1. This is a one piece garment, but I have written the pattern in two sections (brim, body) to avoid confusion in row counting.

This is one of my first attempts at a triangle scarf, and the yarn really helped to mold the style of this design; the light and soft feel of cotton gave me a large, billowy project without a lot of weight.

Sunkissed is a 100% cotton, fingering weight yarn, and has a naturally comfortable and fluid drape to it. It’s soft, not stiff, and I found it to be very easy to work with.

Each 50 gram ball is roughly 185 yards, and priced just over $3, so it’s quite affordable! I suggest looking for this yarn at Deramores.com.

This design can easily be made in other yarn weights and types, too! Just make sure you swatch, and do measure as you go along.

Yarn: Bernat Handicrafter worsted weight cotton (12 oz/608 yards): 95 yards #9042 Cool Grey

Hook Size: H/8 (5.00 mm)

Gauge: 17 dc = 4″, 5 dc rows = 3.5″

Other Materials: 4-7″ high x 4-7″ wide flower pot, 2″ hook screw (to hang), plant of choice.

Instructions

Make magic ring.

Finishing

Assure long chains are neatly on sides, taking care not to tangle. Place plant into flower pot, then into herb holder. Gather 1 long ch at a time, until all 6 are held; adjust pot holder and plant as necessary. Assure 2” hook screw is securely in place and transfer all long chains onto hook.

Use tail ends from Leaves (Small and Large), and Vine (Small and Large) to fasten to hat. Position where desired, at Round 4 for all sizes.

  • Hook Size: Use a hook size that best accompanies  yarn used.
  • Button: Optional; 1″ button with 2 holes used.
  • Felt: Optional; 1.5-2” circles,
  • Alligator Clip: Optional; 1.5-2” long

Gauge

Varies depending on yarn used. Example flower measures approximately 4″, leaves measure approximately 2.5″.

Instructions

Round 4: Working into wrong side of work, insert hook into  two loops  between each petal (picture 6), sc, Ch 4, then Work the following into each space between petals: sc, ch 4 (Picture 7). Sl st to first sc of round to join (6 ch 4 spaces made; picture 8)

Round 5: Work the following into each ch 4 space around: sl st, ch 1, hdc, 2dc, hdc, ch 1, sl st (Picture 9, picture 10). Sl St to first sl st of round to join (6 petals made; 2nd layer complete)

Round 6: Working into wrong  side of work, insert hook into  two loops between each petal (picture 11), sc, Ch 5, then Work the following into each space between petals: sc, ch 5 (Picture 12). Sl st to first sc of round to join (6 ch 5 spaces made)

Round 7: Work the following into each ch 5 space around: sl st, ch 1, hdc, 3dc, hdc, ch 1, sl st (Picture 13; 6 petals made, 3rd layer complete). Fasten, weave tail end toward beginning tail and knot together on wrong side to conceal (Picture 14).

Attaching Button: Cut 6” of yarn to thread button, pull each side of yarn in between hdc stitches from round 1 (Picture 15). Knot tail ends together fasten (picture 16), cut excess.

Leaves: (make 2)
Row 1: Leave a 3” tail, Ch 8,  work the following: Sl St, Sc, HDc, Dc, Dc, Tc, 2 Tc, Tc, Ch 3, Sl St to join into last St of row.
Row 2: Turn (work on opposite side of Ch), work the following: Ch 3, Tc, 2 Tc, Tc, Dc, Dc, HDc, Sc, Sl St.
Finishing: Ch 1, Sl St into each St across left side of leaf. When beginning tail is reached, cut a 3” tail, fasten. Using tails, fasten leaf to wrong side of flower.

Attaching Felt and Clip: Cut two pieces of felt no larger than the first two layers of flower. Cut the top of  1 piece of felt. Insert clip between both pieces of felt (as pictured). Use a hot glue gun to glue felt pieces together, then glue felt  to the back of your flower. Done!

Textured Washcloth

These Textured Washcloths are a great stash-buster; using simple stitches, and just a handful of yarn, you can make a stack in no time at all!

Materials
• Yarn: Medium, Weight 4; Example made with Lion Brand Yarns Kitchen Cotton
• Hook: H, or size needed to meet gauge

Sizing
• Finished washcloth measures approximately 6″ wide x 6″ long

Repeat row 2 until 18 rows complete, fasten.

Border: Attach yarn into any corner of washcloth). For each corner: Work 3 Sc. For first and last rows: Ch 1, skip 1 St, Sc. For each side: Ch 1, skip 1 row, Sc. Sl St to top of first Sc to join, fasten.
